JUST 4 KIDS! JUST 4 PARENTS!

We are so excited to place at your fingertips total access to Thomas Street Elementary School.  PLEASE take a few minutes to read quickly through these instructions about how to make the most out of your visit to our web site.

Any time you see this icon it is notifying you that it is a direct link to that Teacher/Administrator's email.  Clicking it will launch your default email program allowing you to email this selected teacher or administrator.

Any time you see this icon it is notifying you that it is a direct link to that Teacher's/Administrator's web page.  Clicking it will take you directly to that Teacher/Administrator's web page.

underlined word(s)

Many times you will see a word or many words underlined.  This means the word or group of words are a HYPERLINK (link) to another web page.  For example the words "underlined word(s)" there to the left are a link to this First Time page.  When you place your mouse over a link, the pointer will change to a hand with a pointer finger on it.  Place your mouse over these words to the left to see this work, then click on it to "follow" this link.  NOTE:  Links will be different colors.  This example is RED, but others may be BLUE or GREEN or BLACK, or whatever, depending on the design of the page.

A few quick technical tips to help you on your journey through our web site.

  1. YOUR WEB BROWSER:
A Web BROWSER is the program you use to browse the web.  The most popular companies that provide this software are Netscape and Microsoft.

The web browser that we have designed for is Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.  Netscape's browser (depending on the version you have) will work properly, but occasionally there may be a renegade image or line of text that is not displayed properly in the Netscape browser. Presently, Internet Explorer is on version 6.

You may download Internet Explorer 6.0 by clicking HERE (this is HIGHLY recommended).  Please be ready to spend 30 minutes or more downloading this installation file.  You can check your version of Internet Explorer if you are using it now by clicking on the HELP menu choice at the top of your browser.  It will be the last menu listing near the middle of the top of the screen.  Then you should see an option called "About Internet Explorer" - this will then display information about your version, including a version number.

WHAT IF I HAVE INTERNET EXPLORER BUT IT'S NOT VERSION 6?  We recommend downloading the newest version.  The main reason is the fast pace of today's technology.  Many of today's web sites are being designed and developed around TODAY'S technology.

WHY INTERNET EXPLORER?  Good question.  It may actually come down to a designer's preference.  Many Netscape versions have not been consistent with today's HTML (the programming language of the web) Design techniques.  Netscape is on version 6 right now and this version will display web pages differently than Netscape 4 or version 4.6 or version 4.7.

  2. YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION SPEED:
This is the connection method that you "get on" the internet. Many homes are through a modem.  Many offices and businesses are connected to the internet either through a LAN (local area network), ISDN, or T1 connection.  The later three are much, much faster than a home modem.

Our web site has been optimized for fast loading.  Since a majority of our site includes images, download time for a web page will average 15 to 20 seconds...sometimes a little longer.  This will of course be different depending on your connection to the internet.  If you have questions about your internet connection, please consult your network administrator at your office, or call your ISP (Internet Connection Provider) at home.

  3. YOUR PERSONAL PRIVACY AND SECURITY
Our web site does not make use of "cookies" or any other method of gathering information secretly from you and your visits to our web site.

Any time you fill out an online form to our web site, your information is being sent via email to the displayed email addresses and no where else.  We do not do any tracking or secret trailing on your actions while you visit our site.

  4. YOUR CHILDREN'S NAME AND OTHER INFORMATION
All children/students that are displayed on the Thomas Street Web Site have had the Parental Permission Form signed.

A form has been sent home that required your signature and permission to allow us to post pictures that may include your child on our web site.  NEVER will the full name of a child be shown.  If there is a photograph of two children at our Fall Festival, the caption would simply say:  "Tony and Beth have fun playing with the water balloon display".  Any work displayed on a teacher's web site will always only include the child's first name.

NOTE:  We STRONGLY encourage you to sign this form if you have not yet turned it in.  Allowing us to display the fun and satisfaction that your child is encountering at Thomas Street not only helps to promote our school, but will allow you to tell relatives, friends, or even your own child that they are on the Thomas Street Web Site!  This is a perfect way for distant relatives to see "Tony" and pictures of what he is doing at school!  That is our goal, to bring together our school with you, the community and the world.
